It's never too early for a live album. Most British bands released a live DVD after their first album in the hey day of the music DVD. Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, Razorlight, Starsailor and many others. I admit they're not the epitome of good taste but when it comes to sales figures and fanbase they are comparable to Editors. _________________ I'm not a boardie, I'm a registered user |

Xfm New Music Award 2010 Winner Named!
The battle for the Xfm New Music Award 2010 came to a climax last night (1 February), when The xx's 'xx' was named the Best British Debut Album of the last year.
During a lively debate at a private bunker in North London, the select panel of judges argued passionately about who should take home the trophy, but ultimately it was decided that the South London "dream rock" trio had beaten the likes of Florence And The Machine, La Roux, Mumford And Sons and White Lies to the honour of the third Xfm New Music Award.
The Judges were Carl Barat of Dirty Pretty Things, Xfm's John Kennedy, Dave Berry and Clint Boon, Tom Smith of Editors, Tim Burgess of The Charlatans, Peter Hook of Joy Division/New Order, Stone Roses and
Radiohead producer John Leckie, Gordon Smart of The Sun, David Morgendorff of MTV, Ben Cardew of Music Week, plus Tom Clarke of 2008 winners The Enemy.
Speaking of the winning album, Tom Smith of Editors said, "It's true originality, something you've not really heard before, it's not linked to sales, it's not linked to critical acclaim, it's something you'll come back to again and again and again. For whatever reason, they're resonating with critics and fans, which is good." |
You can also listen to an interview with Tom Smith (presumably about the above article) at the source: http://www.xfm.co.uk/news/2010/xfm-new-music-award-2010-winner-named |

...admittedly I've grown to like this the more I listen to it but it's far from being special or unique and it is certainly not a patch on anything recorded by Mazzy Star _________________ "children you've still got a lot to fucking learn" |

From The Sun
"THE EDITORS are back in the studio and crediting a bout of food poisoning for their darkest work yet.
TOM SMITH and co are well known for their moody tunes.
However the quartet say their new material has taken an even more sombre tone as they started recording with dodgy tums, following an appearance on JONATHAN ROSS' radio show.
Tom said: "We were back in the studio last week, but sadly we were all feeling ill from food poisoning and tired from jetlag.
"We'd just done Jonathan Ross' radio show and we were getting a cab back to the studio to work and we had to pull over to be sick on the path - it was pretty undignified."
The band were chatting after performing a brilliant Biz Session.
Tom - who was joined by bandmates CHRIS URBANOWICZ and RUSSELL LEETCH - performed acoustic versions of new single You Don't Know Love and hit songs Papillon, Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors and Munich which you can listen to by clicking on the links to the right.
But despite Tom's baritone voice in full flow, the lads modestly ruled themselves out of becoming the next OASIS or COLDPLAY.
Tom - partner of Radio 1 DJ EDITH BOWMAN - said: "I think we'd struggle. We're a little harder to 'get'. We did have 22ft flames at our recent gig in Belgium but that's as flash as we go.
"Our current album This Light And On This Evening is definitely our least commercial.
"Not that that's a bad thing - I do think it's our best record. I'm very proud of it."
He added: "It's not that we're turning our noses up at those bands, the kind which are more obvious, but for us it's more interesting if it's not that obvious.
"There's something in our band that's naturally very scared of that thing.
"Some of the songs I write you could do them one way and they would be euphoric songs in that nature, and can be taken on in that way." _________________

Yes, I'm one of the lucky ones. I didn't get them myself for a LONG time.
Besides, I've signed up for those kinds of things so many things, I'm sure Sony/Columbia/PIAS/Kitchenware/Fader all have my e-mail by now. |

This is a pretty random thought, I wonder if there's any connection at all between the Junkie XL remix of Camera and the title track of ITLAOTE? If you think about it, things like the chord progression and the overall song structures are very similar. I read a comment on YouTube saying apparently the band enjoyed this remix and wern't happy the record label wouldn't release it. Perhaps the song is their reinvention of that? Or am I looking too far into things. _________________
